On Wednesday, March 22, streetwear retailer, Champs Sports, unveiled a video on their youtube account featuring Tom Yoo, an artist that makes sneakers entirely out of legos. This time, the masterpiece he chose to construct was inspired by the Nike Air Vapor Max. The artist states that what stands out to him the most is the sole of the shoe, and he describes it at unmistakable and that it makes the sneakers very beautiful. The process he goes through in order to construct the form are:
- Analyzing the shoe and picking out key characteristics.
- Going to the computer and making a model of what the shoe might look like in lego form.
- Then, ordering the bricks that he’ll need to make the structure.
Another important takeaway from the video is that Tom Yoo does this because he loves sneakers and he calls himself a sneakerhead. For those of us who love legos and sneakers alike, we really owe Tom Yoo for giving us this excuse to pull out our old lego sets in the name of art.
