Today Velvet Blue Ocean is featuring Jonesy. I met her in a computer lab at my college and I couldn’t help but admire her captivating sense of style. I noticed it was very menswear inspired while still composing very subtle hints of allure, which really drew my attention. I started to think about how under-rated menswear can be and how many females limit themselves to clothes in the women’s department. However, the goal of this editorial is to show how women can also incorporate slight hints of menswear into their daily wardrobe. Also, how guys, who dare to do so, can push the boundaries of menswear in hopes of making street style less gender confined.
Check out her style and interview questions below:
Me: What pieces are you wearing?
Jonesy: I’m wearing Asos brogues, cropped Calvin Klein button down, thrifted Dickies overalls that I altered.
Me: What Inspired you to incorporate menswear into your style?
Jonesy: I don’t believe that fashion is gendered. I can’t live in the box that gender conformity creates and I feel completely comfortable with myself. I am a woman, I love being a woman and I also love clothes….all clothing and clothes shouldn’t be gendered. So I wear what I want, when I want to, because at the end of the day I know I look good.
Me: Give me three words to describe your style.
Jonesy: I’m always evolving. Those three words, that sentence describes my style perfectly.
Me: Is menswear under represented in your opinion?
Jonesy: yes, definitely! I think its because many males don’t push the envelope and [won’t] take the time to experiment with their wardrobe and find a style that is suitable. The fear of their masculinity being questioned has a lot to do with their reluctance to try new things. And as a result menswear is under represented because there is lack of diversity in the majority of the mainstream menswear excluding streetwear.
Me: Where are your favorite stores to shop?
Jonesy: ASOS.com, I love that place and they always have my size in both genders.
