It’s fun to keep up with New York Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week, and even Milan Fashion Week. But If you haven’t been keeping up with Copenhagen Fashion Week as well, you have missed out on some of the most creative, and innovative work that the fashion industry has ever witnessed. With wonderfully selected colors and the manipulation of underestimated fabrics, the designers that have showcased their collections a Copenhagen Fashion week have continued to prove that the Copenhagen mens fashion is a force to be reckoned with. Here is a list of the best designers from Copenhagen Fashion Week who have done a tremendous job at showcasing Copenhagen men’s fashion.

Heliot Emil

Source: Copenhagen Fashion Week

Heliot Emil is a brand that was started by Julius and Vitor Juul, two brothers who decided to name the brand after their great-grandfather. Their pieces can be found on some of the internets most famous high-end retailers’ websites and they have even had the wonderful opportunity of unveiling a previous collection at New York Fashion Week, which I can only imagine how much attention this has attracted. This Copenhagen based brand is certainly making strides and this is exciting to see as their collections continue to shape a new and modern image of Copenhagen mens fashion for the world to see and get familiar with. Get used to this brand because you’ll certainly be seeing more of them at your favorite high-end retailers.

Caspar Morch

Source:CopenhagenFashionWeek.com

Caspar Morch, a graduate of Scadinavian Academy of Fashion Design, unveiled his graduate collection at Copenhagen Fashion week for the spring-summer 2019 season. For someone just starting out as a fashion designer, I was blown away by the amount of talent he exhibited. Using classic streetwear essentials such as a bomber jacket with ruched sleeves, longline tees, a raglan tee, a button-down shirt and a coat, I was pleased with the fact that he was still able to implement such phenomenal and geometric details in the construction of the garments. The icy color palette of blue, grey and cream also really complimented the pieces very well. This designer seems very promising to me and it seems as though YEEZY has some competition on the way or perhaps a new potential creative director. For now, we can only hope for more through his ig

HÆRVÆRK

Source:Copenhagenfashionweek.com

HÆRVÆRK, a Danish term for vandalism, is also an appropriate name for a brand that represents youths from the streets of Denmark. Niels Gundtoft draws inspiration from video games, creating a collection that has a very anime characteristic feel. Really flamboyant colors like pink and yellow couldn’t be more fitting for a collection such as this. Somethings that this brand introduces to the conversation of Copenhagen mens fashion is biker shorts, a trend that has risen recently mostly targeting women. Key items from the collection include, over-sized dress shirts, a very puffy bomber jacket with (what seems like) shoulder pads, and a V-neck sweater vandalized with the very loud and flamboyant yellow and black print seen all across the collection. I’m looking to see more as they introduce a new perspective and attract a new crowd to the fashion industry.

Han Kjøbenhavn

source:Copenhagenfashionweek.com

This Copehagen based brand is only 10 years old, yet it has accomplished much over the course of its’ lifetime. Started by Jannik Wikkelsø Davidsen, this brand has pieces in really big fashion retailers such as Ssense, Urban Outfitters, Garmentory, and even Amazon. The collection Han Kjøbenhavn unveiled at Copenhagen fashion week features floral prints, color blocking techniques, oversized trousers short and big silky scarves. Some of the coveted pieces include sleeve-less leather jacket and another leather jacket and shorts with fleece sleeves and legs detailed with a tubular material that creates an abstract shape. It’s quite refreshing to see a brand take very classic pieces and create such a convincing collection with on-trend, yet classic pieces. If you like the new Balenciaga aesthetic you’ll definitely love this brand as its voice for Copenhagen mens fashion is getting a lot stronger.

Martin Asbjørn

Martin Asbjørn is another brand Copenhagen mens fashion brand that chose to implement a very icy colorway during Copenhagen fashion week for the spring/summer 2019 season. The very cool tones of minty blues and greens are very prevalent in the collection. It was also an exceptionally brilliant choice to add khaki brown to their color palette as these colors go nicely together. Martin Asbjørn attempts to create a collection that falls between the categories of sporty, casual and dressy, creating very laid back and effortless ensembles. At only 4 years old this brand certainly a force to be reckoned with as they continue to shape an image of the modern man.

Halo

Halo is a brand that was started by Helge Peterson, a professional soldier, who has experience with being in the Danish Special Forces. Apparent in the collection are very athletic and uniform pieces that draw inspiration from this Danish Special Force as Helge is very persistent in his targeting of athletic people who indulge in the training lifestyle. The collection features very loose-fitting and baggy garments such as sweaters, jackets, sweatpants and sweatshirts. The vibrant yellows and reds are visually assaulting as they harmonize with other neutral tones such as army green, black, and b’dazzled blue. I don’t only recommend this brand for athletic individuals but I also recommend this brand for those going for a more laid-back, comfy YEEZY-esque attire.

Antti Peltoniemi for Designers’ Nest

From my understanding, Designers’ Nest is an independent non-profit organization that held a contest at Copenhagen Fashion Week for upcoming designers to compete for a prize of $50,000 to jumpstart their fashion design label. The competition consists of designers from the top 6 Nordic design schools. One contender that really drew my attention was Antti Peltoniemi, a menswear designer that utilized glossy, plastic-like and also velvet materials to create a very innovative collection. The innovation comes as a result of creating patterns, shapes, and structures made of loosely hanging fabrics. This is evident in a jacket with a big green ruffle on one side going over the shoulder. Another really cool technique was using this same strategy of loosely hanging the fabrics to create a google chrome-like pattern. There was also these pants that were held together with two fabrics wrapped carefully around the leg to create a geometric pattern with parts of the seamlines separated. He certainly has my vote for the winner.

Bendikte Hansen for Design School Kolding

A graduate of Design School Kolding by the name of Benedikte Hansen is another designer that unveiled another captivating collection. This collection features very vivid white seam lines all across the collection. This collection is done with only two colors: blue and black, yet it still does a great job providing another perspective of Copenhagen mens fashion for the world to see. Some of my favorite pieces are the big baggy/puffy pants that quickly turns fitted from the knee down, styled with hoof-like leather shoes creating the likeness of a minotaur. Other favorites are the two kimono jacket with heavy detailing such as vivid, white seamlines and rectangular shapes. The pair of pants with huge ruffles on the side is also pretty unique, although I’m not sure whether this is a pant or a skirt. Regardless, this was a refreshing collection to grace Copenhagen Fashion Week.

Jens Ole Arnason for Future of Fashion and Designers’ Nest

Future of Fashion is a runway show held at Copenhagen Fashion Week in order to celebrate the graduation of designers from both Design School Kolding and The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. So this show consists of a diverse selection of designers with some unconventional designs. One of these designers is Jens Ole Arnason whose collection entails classic pieces altered with ruching and pinching of the fabrics. Worth mentioning is a jumpsuit with ruching from the legs to the shoulders then wrapping around the arm, creating a very edgy and avante-garde silhouette. Simpler pieces are a button down shirt with the same technique done around the shoulders and a blazer done the same. The styling was quite unexpected as these two later pieces were styled with very short shorts. This collection is quite unusual as this is one of the more unorthodox takes on Copenhagen men’s fashion.

Holzweiler

Holzweiler is a Norwegian brand that started in 2012 making just scarves but since 2014 they have expanded their inventory to also include a collection of pieces. Started by Suzanne and Andreas Holzweiler, this collection exhibits a very unique variation of prints and color themes. Numerous striped patterns with a variation of colors can be seen all across the collection which makes these minimalistic pieces more interesting. Some of my favorite pieces include a mesh blazer, a cargo pant and jacket with visible seam lines, knitwear and an oversized coat with a vibrant silky scarf.

So I believe that it is a huge misconception in fashion that a person has to be of a certain body type to be considered stylish, fly, or dapper. But in the year of 2017 2018, the fashion industry has made progress in discrediting that believe. There are a few plus-size female models who are walking for major runway labels and some of our favorite fast fashion companies are expanding their marketing to cater to plus size men and women. Two of these big retailers are ASOS and Boohoo, who have created their in-house pieces for bigger men and women.  I still haven’t seen any big designers send plus-size male models down their runway so there are still improvements to be made. And although I don’t believe this is an attempt to exclude anyone from wanting to be apart to the market, this is sometimes the sad reality of only showing a certain body type. Because many people are not seeing images, concepts or ideas that are in reference to their body type or their image this can sometimes leave a disconnect between labels and the plus size market. Here are 10 stylish bigger guys who regardless of under-representation in streetwear for bigger guys they still keep their outfits fresh and stylish, and their IG fresh and stylish. If you are a bigger guy yourself, hopefully, 1 or more of these bloggers can inspire your style. and if you’re a smaller guy maybe you can take some inspiration from some of these bloggers as well.

@ivanthefutureboy

@ivanthefutureboy is another one of my favorite bigger guys to observe on Instagram. While scrolling through his insta, not only do you find killer outfits, but also really dope pieces that are Off-White, Rothco, Supreme, Yeezy, Vetements and even Pornhub :-D. You can also find really dope photography with little quotes. The color schemes from the outfits and the outfits themselves are some of the dopest you’ll ever see from a bigger guy. Seriously, check him out.

@mogimike

A post shared by Mike de Wolff (@mogimike) on

@mogimike is one of my favorite and most stylish bloggers to follow on instagram. Even though I don’t consider him a bigger guy, I do believe his image is different from what is shown to us on runways, in campaigns, in magazines, online stores, even some of the male streetwear bloggers you might follow on IG. Therefore I incorporated him into this list so that bigger guys can take a few lessons from him as his style is definitely a force to be reckoned with. I really love his diverse array of looks. Today it could be a jeans jacket with jeans and tomorrow might be a blazer with cropped slacks. The day after he might post a very Balenciaga-esque look and after that, you could see a very military-esque look. I think what really relates me to him so much is that he rocks a blazer with slacks so casually, and I have been straying away from suits and ties for a minute but his looks really inspired me to explore that option a little more than I have in the past.

@Zuldaiby_

A post shared by Z. (@zuldaiby_) on

@Zuldaiby_ is one of the more stylish bloggers I know. While his style is very minimalistic, I can see how it may still interest a bigger guy who wants a more chill laid back look. Many bigger guys stay away from more fitted pants like chinos and skinnies but these seem to be pieces that he incorporates into most of his looks which creates a very minimalist vibe, maybe even business-casual (dare I say). I see him rocking cropped and fitted slacks in a very casual way with classic sneakers like Comme des Garcon’s, Yeezys and Nikes. And if you’re into sneakers as well, @zuldaby is your guy to follow.

@dghramm

A post shared by Darnel Ghramm (@dghramm) on

Darnel Ghramm is a plus size male model. His page consists of a varied amount of looks which are both casual and formal. His casual looks are more laid back and cool and his formal looks are dope as well. I really liked how he mixed some of his casual pieces with his formal pieces and formal pieces with casual pieces to create a more streetwear outfit. He likes to layer which is something that can look really flattering on a bigger guy. His peacoats and long lines are also something that I would recommend for anyone who likes to hide their thigh area.

@Kingparchment

If Nemar Parchment’s (@kingparchment) face seems slightly, or very, familiar to you, you probably notice him from all those days you spent trying to scroll through ASOS’s stuff. If you’re not familiar with ASOS, I don’t know what to say :-(. Nemar is a plus-size model for ASOS and his style is really dope. He posts a decent amount of photoshoot pics but he also posts enough “going-out” pics for you to really get a feel for his style. He wears a lot of skinny jeans which he really pulls off. Also, the bomber, beret, and camo prints really compliment his style very well. See what all these small changes can do for your look.

@Enzocoldriver

@enzocoldriver is a plus size fashion blogger based in Spain and he has a really dope IG. All his photos have a very vintage vibe, which is quite unique within this list of bloggers. His style is really cool and laid back but he takes the right step forward when it comes to taking risks. For example, fringed shirts and an oversized scarf is one way to go. Also, mixing a fedora and a peacoat with jeans and sneakers is also another step to consider. In his IG, Not only can you find inspirational photos, but you can also find a lot of travel photography and nature photography. Thankfully we don’t need to share the same language to share our admiration of style, traveling, and photography.

joel_photohesh

A post shared by Joel Davis (@joel_photohesh) on

@joel_photohesh is another familiar face that you might recognize from scrolling through ASOS. It’s not clear to me if his personal style is reflected in the images for ASOS. However, the stylists there do a really good job of keeping him fresh for campaign photos. Lucky for bigger guys who might be looking for some inspiration in what to wear, he posts a good amount of his images to his IG so that you can be inspired by some of his outfits. While they might be a little simple, maybe this is the look a bigger guy is going for in elevating his own style. He also posts really beautiful photography and FOOD! Who doesn’t like a good burger on their IG feed every now and then?

@latinboywearsadress

If you’re going for more androgynous looks that challenge the gender norms, @latinboywearsadress is totally someone you can look to for inspiration in doing this. Even someone looking for more masculine outfits as well could take inspiration from Fernando. It’s really cool to see him in oversized bombers and peacoats. He also rocks a good amount of fitted pants which I’m sure bigger guys have been told to stay away from. Check out his looks and see if they inspire you.

@umbilical.cords

Another really stylish person to pull inspiration from is @umbilical.cord. While his Instagram seems to take a more personal approach, he is one of the more stylish people on this list. He really knows how to mix the right tones to create a profound look. Drop-crotch pants, an oversized scarf, and cool accessories certainly make his style a force to be reckoned with as well.

extra_inches_plussizeblog

Claus is a male plus size model who operates a plus size men’s fashion blog on IG, @extra_inches_plussizeblog. While his outfits are very diverse, he posts looks every now an then that are streetwear infused. Some of these looks are jeans with sneakers and an overcoat, camo jeans button down with joggers, and even a nice jeans jacket every now and then. One thing that is very vivid throughout his page is the great level of confidence he exudes.

I love streetwear news and if you’re reading, I hope you feel the same. I think I first realized my obsession when I messed up in a course I took a previous semester in college. Sitting in the library, my friend turned to me and said “You know why you’re not doing well? You’re always looking at fashion stuff.” After getting over how frank she was, I came to the realization that I was always looking at fashion stuff. Because I was so bored with the classes I was taking and how hard I was studying, these top urban fashion magazines became sort of an escape for me but my focus became more narrow after I did an internship for a womenswear designer, here in New York City. I never really enjoyed it and that’s when I turned my attention to streetwear. Fashion week has been, and forever will be my two favorite times of the year, as I get to show up to venues and watch people strut their stuff. But very soon this alone wasn’t enough. I wanted to learn about what styles and trends were emerging NOW. I wanted to know more about menswear, sneakers, and even release dates, stores to shop, events to attend, etc. And all these Ideas that I was digitally exposed to slowly started to become apart of my style and my lifestyle. If you can relate to the obsession I have or maybe you want to keep up with the latest trends in streetwear, Here are the 6 best streetwear magazines for streetwear news.

Best Streetwear Magazines for Streetwear News

PAUSE Mag

Pause Magazine is #1 on my list. This is an online magazine that covers a variety of topics from categories which include: streetwear news, Streetstyle, Editorials, and celebrity style(aka “PAUSE Spotted”). According to PAUSE, the name came about from them wanting to make their audience pause or stop for men’s fashion. And even though this magazine is UK based, it covers a decent amount of news from New York City. In addition to readership from the USA, the site also claims readership from Paris, Hong Kong, and Spain. Their IG is loaded with inspirational images such as street style, celebrity style, editorials and lookbook images from different brands. Their youtube channel doesn’t distribute content very often but the amount of content that has already been uploaded is worth checking out. These are a few of the qualities that certainly makes PAUSE one of the top streetwear magazines, so with that being said, Let the tabs be opened.

Highsnobiety

Highsnobiety is the second magazine on my list of magazines to keep up with streetwear. This magazine was once a blog which started in Berlin, in 2005 by Daniel Fischer. It is now New York-based and covers a wide range of topics from different categories such as music, style, clothing, shopping life and even design. Their youtube is constantly loaded with interesting content such as interviews, events, and documentaries. One documentary that recently went viral was a documentary which was shot in Seoul called “Seoul’s Counterfeit Culture”. On their Instagram a is a great place to find inspiration for both style and photography. Also, its really worth checking out their other site, What Drops Now and the female version of Highsnobiety, called Highsnobette.

Pacific Sunwear of California Inc

Hypebeast

HypeBeast is a Hong Kong-based Magazine that was started by Kevin Ma, in 2005. With a slogan like “Driving Culture Forward,” there is no denying that this is one of the best streetwear magazines for streetwear news. This is a great magazine to help you keep up with streetwear, Sneakers, Music, and Art. Other categories of topics they cover are Technology, Entertainment, Automotive, Food, Travel, Sports, and Shopping. On their Instagram, you can also find a lot of inspirational content such as event photos, pop culture icons, celebrities, sneakers etc. I would also recommend checking out their youtube for some inspirational content, as it has features of celebs, designers, event coverage, street style, and documentary-like films. This major publication is the parent of a few other sites such as their e-commerce site, HBX, which was started back in 2012; one of the top destinations for copping streetwear. Another site to be aware of is their sistering site HypeBae, which strives to put women in the forefront of the content that it publishes. This magazine covers a variety of topics from categories such as fashion, footwear, health, travel, food, home, entertainment, and beauty. So even if you aren’t a girl and you have no interest in checking this site out, I would still recommend it for if you want to buy any female a present and even if you’d like to know whats trending for women at the moment. And if you’re a female reading this article, I recommend you to check this out too. Another cool site that Hypebeast gave birth to is HypeKids (see what I did there?). This is a fairly new website but it covers a bunch of topics under the categories of fashion, shoes, and toys all for children. Of course, I recommend checking this site out if you have a kid in your life that you want to keep fresh with all the latest styles and trends.

Complex

A lot of people are familiar with Complex and know it as one of the top urban fashion magazines but a lot of people didn’t know that this was a magazine that was started by Marc Milecofsky, the owner of Echo Unlimited. It began as a print publication in 2002 and in 2007 is when it began to dominate as a digital media publication. Today Complex is another magazine and online publication that covers a vast array of topics such as music, style, pop-culture, sports, and life. This is also a platform that distributes contents from multiple parts of the world such as the UK, Australia, and Canada. Overall, Complex is a cool website to visit to keep up with the latest occurrences in pop-culture and in streetwear. Its also the place to come across exclusive interviews, lookbooks and collaborations, store openings, where to buy certain items on your wishlist, release dates, legal drama, street style images and the list goes on and on.

Fucking Young!

You probably have a lot of questions about the name of this site, but I would like to assure you that Fucking Young is not a porn site. It’s an online publication and magazine that covers not only streetwear but the whole spectrum of menswear. This was a magazine founded by Eduard Garcia, now has Adriano Batista as the Editor in Chief. FY! proudly share editorial campaigns, lookbooks from various designers, collections from different fashion shows, backstage photos from certain runway shows, and even exclusive editorials and interviews, every now and then. What I love about this site is how much how they create content that tries to challenge and push the boundaries of menswear. This magazine exudes that taking risks can sometimes create a really captivating result. Even if I wasn’t a fan of a risk they took in their editorials or interviews, I’m always appreciative of the fact that they actually try to go above and beyond for their audience. Although they cover a lot of different shows, campaigns, and lookbooks, it’s always worth going through them to see photos from runway shows that might excite you in one way or another.

FGUK

Like FY! FGUK is a London-based magazine that is one of the top urban fashion magazines that is not only dedicated to streetwear but it is also dedicated to the whole menswear category. I couldn’t find much more info about this sites, but with sites such as this one, I can not stress how much it’s worth it to shuffle through blog posts to find a specific post that really reflects your style or that you believe has value in it. I found out about really interesting streetwear brands from browsing this site. FGUK also has a category for music, art, traveling, and lifestyle, if you are interested in keeping up with these things as well.

Sometimes I think, to myself, that the power of the internet can be very underestimated. The internet is a (sometimes) wonderful place where we get to share our ideas and people can read these ideas. Before the internet, people would write books to share their ideas but think about how much more expensive that would’ve been. We also have to take into consideration that without the ability to order a print copy of a book we would like to read, most books wouldn’t be available to us because they wouldn’t be available locally or you wouldn’t even know they exist. Therefore, the internet allows us to share our ideas that will be instantly accessible to people who are interested in hearing what we have to say from all around the world. But what if the people who were interested in hearing what you have to say didn’t really know when you shared something. Or, maybe you have found a really cool blog or news publication on the internet that you love to keep up with but you have trouble doing this. Below Velvet Blue Ocean (VBO) is ready to share with you 3 easy ways to keep up with your favorite blogs and news publications.

1. RSS readers:

My favorite ways to keep up with my favorite blogs, magazines, and news publications is by using RSS readers. After following, if you check your RSS feed, all the most recent published articles or blog posts from these websites you just followed will show up, allowing you to read them right from the RSS site or app. RSS tools even give you the links to bring you right to the website of the respective article is from. Here are some RSS readers that I would really like to recommend:

Feedly

What I really like about Feedly is the compatibility with different devices, the large number of websites it recognizes and the preference options it provides you with. I say it is compatible with many devices because I have experienced both, the comfort of using the website on my PC and laptop, and the App on my phone and tablet. From my experience, Feedly recognizes the articles of many sites that could not be recognized by other RSS readers. And, even if you can’t remember what sites to follow off the top of your head, Feedly recommends to you a list of blogs that you can check out in their respective categories. Some of these categories include comics gaming, business news, fashion, etc. On your personal feed, you can create your own groups to categorize the sites you follow and you can filter your feed based on these categories that you have created. The app has an option for you to go back and see articles that you have recently read. You can switch the theme of the app from a white background with a black font to a black background with a gray font or vice-versa. It even has a ton of other options in the settings to make the user experience more suitable for the individual user.

Bloglovin’

Bloglovin is my second favorite RSS feeder but before I touch on the negatives, I would like to touch on the positives. The homepage is much more compatible, or more comfortable on your PC or laptop than it will be on your phone. The layout is very much like Pinterest, there are multiple articles displayed as tiles. This makes it really great if you want to scroll through multiple articles at once. What I dislike about Bloglovin, as well, is that it doesn’t recognize a lot of the sites I want to keep up with. Also, it doesn’t give you the option to build your own categories or filter your feed based on those categories. However, they do have their own categories that you can explore to find more blogs to follow. Some of these categories include fashion, street style, lifestyle and more.
Please be aware that you are not limited to the above options, therefore, if you would like to learn more, feel free to search google for the term “RSS Readers”.

2. Social Media

This seems like a very obvious thing to do, but you’d be surprised how many people don’t follow, or forget to follow, their favorite publications/blogs on social media. I really want to stress the importance of this because it really helps you to keep up to date with not only their articles but also their progress. This is also a great way for you to be able to give more direct feedback on how you think the publication is doing. Sometimes publications can even update their readers on certain events and things that deserve a more urgent response. This could mean giveaways, upcoming events or even live coverage of an event. It’s also good to have reminders every now and then about a blog or website that you like to visit because as humans we sometimes forget about them. It is also really beneficial to give words of encouragement to people when you appreciate their work. This way it motivates the blogger/writer to keep coming up with more content. Of course, the social media tools that every website users are different but here are some essential social media platforms to follow your favorite blogs, new publications or new sites on:

Instagram

A lot of people use Instagram to share visual content that relates to what their entity is about. You may even find inspirational quotes to move you forward in whatever your field is. This is also a platform that many influencers use to interact with their audience. Whether they use the comment sections, live sessions or reviewing their recent mentions or tags. In Instagram is also a great way for you to gain exposure or be exposed to similar influencers in your field. So I strongly suggest that you follow your favorite sites on Instagram as it’s very likely that they use that social media channel.

Pacific Sunwear of California Inc

Facebook

From using Facebook myself, it is pretty safe to say that Facebook pretty much like a more social RSS feeder when it comes to keeping up with your favorite sites. A lot of publications set up their facebook to automatically share articles that they post so if you follow your favorite site’s Facebook page, you can see their articles as soon as they post it. Also, think about how convenient this could be for you to see their article from scrolling through your timeline. This could save you from constantly going to their website and checking for new articles. Facebook also has a live feature that people sometimes use to connect with their audience. So this could really help you in having a more direct interaction with these influencers. What I like about the Facebook platform is that it also allows you to share videos with your followers. And Facebook even adds a list of related videos that you can watch if you enjoyed the one that was previously posted. This could make you aware of the content other influencers are producing. I also like the fact that Facebook is so compatible with so many devices which makes it easier for you to access at different locations. Being able to access Facebook from different locations makes it easier for you to stay instantly and constantly up to date.

Like I mentioned before, these platforms vary based on what the what their pages use, therefore, nothing is better than checking the site for the social media icons that are usually somewhere in sight. Some other social media to check out are Youtube, Vimeo, Twitter, and Pinterest.

3. Subscribe to Newsletters!

Subscribing to a website’s newsletter not only helps you to get update and reminders about a website that you want to keep up with, but it also helps you to be “in the know” about different things that you would probably be interested in knowing about. Being subscribed to a newsletter also helps you to keep track of the information as it is sent to your inbox, opposed to if it was posted to a website and you weren’t aware. You might even visit the site again at a later date and there might be tons of articles that were published since the last time you visited, making it extremely hard to catch up. on all the info you’ve missed.

These might all seem like very simple and obvious tips for keeping up with sites you may be interested in. But if only I could get paid for the number of times people told me they had trouble keeping up with their favorite sites, I would have much more money in my bank account, to say the least. So these were my tips for easy ways to keep up with your favorite publications.

Comment below how you keep up with your favorite publications.

If you like to experiment with style, but you are on a super tight budget, it’s okay we’ve all been there. One option you can always explore is off price discount retailers.

Off Price Retailers Definition:

“What does off price mean?” You may ask. Off price means unsold merchandise that has prices that have been lowered or discounted without any discount codes or coupons. There are discount codes and coupons available for most of the stores listed below.
“What is an off price retailer?”Off price retailers are the stores that sell these off price merchandise at a price lower than it was originally sold. Off price discount retailers are usually owned by bigger retailers who open these stores so that they can sell overstocked items that were not able to be sold at the end of a season to make space for clothes at the beginning of a new season. The prices are of course lowered because they want to get rid of these older items to speed up the inventory turnover so they can have space to stock new items.

What I like about off price discount retailers is that they sell pieces at these lowered prices. Although this sounds like a miracle, shopping at off price retailers can either be a nightmare or a dream. I say this because you’ll see a ton of pieces to browse through and you won’t be fond of every single piece; you may not even like the majority of the pieces you come across. But, off price retailers should not be underestimated as sometimes, you can find decent looking pieces for low prices that really fits your style. Please be advised though, at times there can be a compromise in the quality of pieces and you might not see very well known designers, but you if you’re on a really tight budget, I’m sure that is the least of your worries. Here is Velvet Blue Ocean’s List of off price discount retailers for Cheaper Clothing.

Burlington Coat Factory

What I like about Burlington Coat Factory is that their stores and selections are vast and every now and then, you come across beautiful pieces that leave you asking yourself, “How’d this end up here?” Some examples I can attest to seeing are Dr. Martens, Urban Outfitter’s ‘BDG’ brand, Publish and even more popular brands like Nike, Adidas, and Puma, etc. You might not see new pieces from the current season, but this makes sense because the buyers, of course, have to wait for the end of the seasons for the suppliers to consider what is overstocked. But you can sometimes find decent pieces in Burlington for really cheap prices. I usually find myself having to browse through hundreds of pieces to find that one specific piece that I like, but when I do, I’m usually very satisfied with my purchase. According to its’ Wiki, Burlington has 591 stores in 45 states of the United States. So If you are lucky enough to be close to one of these locations and affordable streetwear sounds interesting to you, you should definitely check them out. They also have a website you can shop on if you aren’t close enough or if you’re just not that into shopping in stores. But don’t walk in expecting to find designer pieces or pieces with A1 quality. Burlington Coat Factory is simply an option for people who aren’t into name-brand or designer apparel and are looking for affordable pieces that they can use to implement their style.

Marshalls

Marshalls is another one of my favorite off price discount retailers as I have found amazing pieces from shopping there. People have also been surprised at some of the pieces they’ve found in Marshalls. Check out this article Hypebeast did back in December about the AirJordans 1 that were selling there for half the original retail price. I also remember coming across a meme once with amazing Marshalls finds. So my point is to say that you can find great pieces from shopping at Marshalls and I’m clearly not the only one that thinks this. Like Burlington, Marshalls also has a wide selection of pieces and I usually have to browse through hundreds of pieces to find a pair of joggers or a bomber but I’m usually happy with my purchase. What I like about my local Marshalls as well is that they support a lot of unknown/underground streetwear brands like Brooklyn Xpress, and Brooklyn Cloth. These are brands within my own city that I would’ve never known about otherwise. I must admit that I’m not sure if this is just in my city or if they sell the same pieces all around but Marshalls is definitely a great store to check out for affordable pieces. I also remember shopping at a Marshalls at the World Trade Center in Manhattan and I found Valentino bag packs along with other well known, high -end designers. Of course, the prices were through the roof but this could be hinting at a new approach that Marshalls is trying to take to fashion. So you’d definately want to keep up with them.

Macy’s Backstage

Macy’s Backstage is another good place to buy affordable streetwear. If you Know about the popular American store Macy’s, Macy’s Backstage is basically another off price discount retailer where pieces are obtained from the regular Macy’s. The prices are sometimes just as low and the quality of the pieces is also decent. The brands are similar to that of the selection of Marshalls and Burlington so this is another store I go and find myself browsing through hundreds of pieces to find that one piece I admire. But, I’m usually satisfied with my buy and the quality is usually very good, in terms of durability and being fashion forward. It seems as though most of the stores are available in the North Eastern States such as New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia etc. There are also two stores in Texas. They also don’t have an e-commerce site, but you can always visit the closest one if you travel to a city that has a Macy’s Backstage. The website can also help you find one that is close to you. And in the meantime, you can always check out the “Men’s Contemporary” category on the original Macy’s website if you want an Idea of the pieces you’ll find.

Forever21 Red

Forever21 Red is the Forever 21 version of Macy’s Backstage. Although this isn’t my favorite store to shop, I took my readers into consideration as you may like some of the pieces from that store. To me, the pieces are more affordable than pieces you would find in other stores such as Zara and Urban Outfitters, however, the prices seem very identical to the original Forever21 stores and their selection of pieces aren’t as wide as other off-price retailers that I’ve mentioned before. The setup of the store is also very identical to the original Forever21 with 85% women’s clothing and 15% men’s clothing. Another thing I really hate about this store is that there are only a few stores in the entire United States. Therefore you would think that each location would have obtained a collection of pieces from stores within their nearest locations, however, that doesn’t seem to be the case. My best friend lives moderately close to the one that’s closest to me so I managed to stop and take a look at the store. I was extremely underwhelmed. One positive thing I can say is that the pieces are a little trendy and they are great essentials to have for the respective seasons. For example, I saw some really nice muscle tees along with skinny jeans and dad hats. The pieces also have some really nice, vibrant colors with very fashion forward details such as rips and cuts (if you’re into that). I also stumble through the women’s area with my friend and I saw some really nice pieces for women as well. So while finding nice pieces should be your motive, you won’t have a wide selection of pieces and the pieces probably won’t be as affordable as the stores I mentioned before.

Off Price Retailers for Designer Clothes

BlueFly

Although Bluefly is only an e-commerce off price discount retail store, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to tell you guys about it. Bluefly is another off-price retailer that sells designer goods for a low price by implementing the same system as other off-price retailers. For people who love designer goods but not the price that comes with it, this is a great option to check out. Don’t be surprised if you see prices that aren’t as low as they are at Marshalls and Burlington. Because these pieces are from top designers and their supplier probably paid a lot of money for them, It’s less likely that they’ll want to sell it back for a ridiculously low amount and off price retailers also have to make a profit too, to open more stores, pay rent, pay employees and other expenses, so they’ll probably have to mark up the price for a little more than they paid for the overstocked goods. Along with high-end designers, they also have a selection of ordinary brands such as Adidas, Nike, Nautica etc. So this is a great option to explore for affordable streetwear but you’ll probably have to look through hundred of loafers, belts, and shoes as this store doesn’t seem to target streetwear consumers. It seems to mostly target adults who are into suits and ties but I’m sure, here and there, you’ll find pieces that suit your style.

Barneys Warehouse

If you’re into designers like Vetements and Fear of God this is somewhere you can buy these for less than the original retail price. I must admit, Barneys have prices that are ridiculously high prices and they aren’t much lower than the original prices. However, I’m sure we all come across one or two expensive pieces from runway shows that we fall in love with. If you were to buy the piece from last season that you couldn’t find anywhere else and you were all out of options on where you find it, you could always check the Barneys Warehouse website to see if the piece is there and also to save a couple bucks off your purchase.

Nordstrom Rack

Nordstrom Rack is one of my favorite of off price discount retailers. This is a brick and mortar as well as e-commerce store that is owned by the popular American department store, Nordstrom. This retailer sells designer apparel as well as more affordable apparel for men, women, and children. There are stores all over the United States from California all the way to New York. Some of the more notable high-end streetwear brands they carry are Helmut Lang, Kenzo, and Belstaff. They also carry more affordable brands like Alpha Industries, Carhart Work In Progress, Dickies, Topman, etc.

6pm

6pm is an online e-commerce website that sells discounted items for men, women and children. Its a store that’s owned by Zappos and it carries many high end brands like Balenciaga, DSQUARED2, and Jeremy Scott. It also carries a bunch of affordable brands like Dr. Martens, Alpha industry and Herschel. They have a huge selection of brands and categories to choose from so I definitely recommend checking them out.

Saks OFF 5th

Saks Off 5th is the off price discount retailer of Saks 5th, one of the oldest high end department stores started in New York City. This is an online/e-commerce store as well as a brick and Mortar store with locations scattered all across the United States in almost every state. It carries merchandise for men, women, and kids. Saks Off 5th provides access to a wide range of merchandise from numerous high end designers. Some of the more notable brands are Balenciaga,DSQUARED2, Faith Connexion, Helmut Lang etc. But as its’ parent company, Saks 5th, doesn’t really carry many affordable brands, therefore, I wouldn’t expect this from their off price discount retailer either. Their shoe selection includes dress shoes, sneakers, and boots. They also carry jewelry such as rings, bracelets, watches, and chains for men, as well as hats, belts, shades, and more accessories. Saks OFf 5th ships internationally.

Neiman Marcus Last Call

Neiman Marcus Last Call is a U.S. based high end off price discount retailer that is owned and operated by its’ parent company Neiman Marcus. They carry items for both men and women as well as home essentials. It has both an e-commerce website as well as (approximately) 8 Stores scattered all across the United States in states such as New York, New Jersey, Texas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and California. Their prices range from as low as 10 dollars for accessories such as socks and underwear to $20,000 for jewelry (watches). The list of designers a part of their inventory features high-end Balmain, Burberry, DSQUARED2, Gucci, HelmutLang, Palm Angels, etc. Last Call Carries shoes such as sneakers, dress shoes and sandals. The jewelry they carry for guys is mostly watches as well as grooming essentials, skincare products, and colognes. This company ships globally and a good way to keep up with them would be to subscribe to their newsletter to be in the know about the latest sales and new arrivals.

If you’re still skeptical about the stores I’ve mentioned, feel free to check out this editorial I did with my friend rocking all menswear pieces, some of which I got from some of these stores.

Urban Outfitters recently announce it’s Pride collection, which is a collection done in efforts to support the LGBT organization GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network). According to GLSEN’s about page, GLSEN is the leading national education organization focused on ensuring safe and affirming schools for all students, regardless of sexual orientation and gender expression.

The collection is composed of 7 pieces: 1 long sleeve tee, 3 short sleeve graphic tees, 1 tapestry and 2 basketball hats. Some tones recognized are Pink, Blue and White. These pieces were all designer by UO’s in-house designers and 100% of their profits will be donated to the organization GLSEN.
Chicago artist Taylor Bennett will also be featured as the campaign’s ambassador, considering the fact that he recently came out as bisexual earlier this year. This was shortly before releasing his album, Restoration of an American Idol. According to Taylor:

Honesty and being yourself is something that I believe should always be a celebration–whether it’s in hip-hop or everyday life”

Urban Outfitters has also sponsored Bennett’s first music video, “Roof Gone” from his new album. The video will be released on the Urban Outfitter’s YouTube channel in mid-June, as Bennett promises that it’ll be “one of the craziest videos” viewers will have ever seen.
The collection is now available at Urban Outfitters online and in stores across North America.

Are you someone that loves thrifting but is terrified by the thought of leaving the comfort of your own home? Or maybe you’re someone who likes designer clothing but not very fond of the price you have to pay. Maybe you have a very vintage/old school sense of style and like to buy things that you can no longer find in stores. For whatever reasons you like thrifting, online thrifting is something that you can definitely check out. Because now thrifting becomes an opportunity to not only see clothing that people who live in your neighborhood have contributed, but now your options are on a global scale. Even if you don’t like the idea of owning second-handed goods because you’re scared it’s worn out, my advice to you would be: don’t be so quick to refute the idea of thrifting because many times you find things within good condition and people sell their merchandise for different reasons. Maybe the seller got the piece as an unwanted gift, or they bought it from a store with a strict “no return” policy or on a final sale. Therefore, don’t be afraid to take advantage of some of these platforms, in order to get the pieces you want for a lower cost, right in the comfort of your own home.
Here are 5 online destinations where you can thrift streetwear:

Grailed

When it comes to thrifting streetwear online, the #1 spot I would recommend is Grailed. I love this platform because you can search for pieces in their respective categories, such as by the type of pieces, size, designer, etc. just like you can search for items in any other e-commerce store. They also have a huge list of designers you can choose from such as Hood By Air, COMME De GARÇON, Damir Doma, Dries Van Noten, Off-White and many more. They also have more affordable brands like Adidas, Dr. Martens, Fila, Huf, along with many other affordable streetwear brands. Also, If you really like an item a seller is selling but maybe you have questions about the item, the site allows you to ask the seller. Or perhaps the price of the item is still a little hefty, you can offer the seller a price that you are willing to pay for that item and if they accept your price, they’ll sell you the item. The best item I manage to cop were a pair of The Hood By Air Avalanche boots from last season for $70 less than what the seller was selling it for and $400 less than the original retail price, which was $780. Lucky for me, I paid $380. check out the shoes below:

PoshMark

Another spot I would recommend you hit up is Poshmark. I can admit that their marketing strategies in no way or form target the average streetwear consumer, nor do they target males. From the home page all the way through the login process, I was asking myself: “What am I signing on to?” However, they do have a men’s department that seems to get a little overshadowing from the womens’ department. Regardless of that, what I do like about the site is that it offers a lot of affordable streetwear. You can find brands like Billionaire Boy’s Club, Fila, Huf, Neff, Stussy, and many others. Also, From going through the list, you’ll see the more mainstream designers, for example, Gucci, Prada, Tommy Hilfiger etc. I must admit though, you won’t see more specific streetwear designer brands like Off-White, A-COLD-WALL*, Vetements or any others that fit into that category. You can give their search engine a shot but the main reason why I believe their options aren’t diverse is because the site isn’t very well known as yet, atleast not by the streetwear culture. So let’s try to get the word out on this site and if you have some pieces you’d like to add, this could really make you some extra bucks while giving the current consumers more options.

ASOS Marketplace

ASOS Marketplace is a great place to do online thrifting. You can buy pieces to compliment that vintage, hipster, or retro style that you might be trying to achieve and you also have a wide range of options to help you do so. The reason why I say this is because ASOS Marketplace consists of many different vintage retailers all selling on one platform. So, you get to see a variety of different styles to choose from. You also get to see real people model the clothes so that you can see the condition that they are in, what they look like and maybe even how to style them. Also worth mentioning is that the pieces can be browsed through their respective categories, sizes, stores and even countries. Some of the stores I strongly recommend you check out are Bloc Vintage, Gullygarms, The East End Thrift Store and Adewears.

F As In Frank Vintage

Yes, that is literally the name of this store. If you’re anywhere near as petty as me, you would be very quick to write this store off because of the name. My advice to you would be, don’t. This is a really dope thrifting destination for streetwear and you can cop some really dope pieces. I honestly love everything about this store. You can browse the items through categories but they don’t have as many brands on their list. It seems they have more brands in their archive than on the list. I really like the site’s design and their aesthetic. I like the way they style their models and how they use a lot of oversized grungy pieces which really adds to the streetwear element. Also worth checking out is their blog where they put out amazing content like videos and photoshoots and things of that nature.

Beyond Retro (UK)

Beyond Retro is a UK store that I stumbled upon while doing some research. From reading their about page, I can see that they began in 2002 in East London. From also reading about them and looking at their pieces, you can see that they’re very serious about finding trendy and good clothes to add to their archive.

We scour fashion runways, global street style, edgy editorial and (most importantly) our own team and customers to determine what’s next in fashion, which informs what we pick from yesterday’s closets. – Beyond Retro’s Website

You can browse the pieces in their respective categories as the other stores in this post. However, one thing that’s really cool about this store is that they let you browse pieces through the styles like “90’s grunge,” “skate classics,” and “Hawaii shirts.” They also carry a lot of affordable pieces by brands like Adidas, Nike, Champion, Dr. Marten and some others. One downside is that they don’t carry designer pieces. But don’t be disappointed as yet, they carry a lot of cool ties, T-shirts, Baja hoodies, Jerseys and some other vintage pieces you’ll probably be interested in.

Ebay

Ebay is also a place to buy second-handed goods. Please notice I didn’t say it was a ‘Great’ place to buy. I have yet to buy a piece of clothing from eBay but it’s important to keep in mind that Ebay is a very popular site and everyone and their mother has heard of it. Therefore, Ebay has a lot of people with different intentions. So be careful when purchasing items on that site. You might come across rip-off deals, fake items, and even misleading ads. Also, I cannot stress how important it is to PRICE CHECK! Before you buy anything on Ebay, be sure to google the item and make sure that competitors aren’t selling it at a lower price and that you won’t be overpaying for it. Also, If you purchase an item from a user on Ebay and it comes in a package from a legit company or e-commerce site, go check they site to make sure that the user didn’t “Dropshit” “Dropship” the product to you. In other words, the person took your personal info, put it into a site (that you could’ve visited) and paid the company less for the product, while they charge you double or even triple the original amount.  As you can see, there is a lot you need to watch out for when thrifting on Ebay. But on the bright side, there are honest and innocent people who use this site just like there are people who use Poshmark or Grailed to resell their pieces. Another advantage of Ebay is that, because it’s so popular, it probably has the widest array of brands you can shop from compared to any other retailer on the web. For this reason, Ebay is definitely worth checking out, be very cautious though.

Best of luck with thrifting streetwear online and if I missed anywhere, please tell me in the comments below.

As the summer approaches one thing I’m sure is highly anticipated by many of you are some wonderful DIY projects. One of the projects you can probably start your summer off with are these t-shirt bleaching techniques done by Youtuber crazycrewcrew. To start this project off, you’ll first need:

  • Bleach
  • spray bottle
  • Water
  • rubberbands
  • bucket (optional)

In the video, the YouTuber does three different shirt bleaching techniques to create three different styles. In the first technique using a black “CULT” shirt, he proceeds to twist the shirt from the middle creating a Cinnabon-like roll. He then continues by placing a few rubber band around the shirt and spray it with the bleach and water solution in a spray bottle.
In the second technique, he started to create a bleached pattern on the purple shirt but then scratched the idea and poured the bleach all over the shirt, which created a splash-like effect. He then finished the areas untouched by the bleach with the bleach and water spray bottle solution.
In the third technique, he dipped a black tank top in a bucket of the bleach and water solution, leaving the other half of the shirt dry. He then continued to spray the remaining spray bottle solution on the top half of the tank creating a speckled effect.
The results were completely mesmerizing and it was very inspiring to know that he did’nt quite know how the results would turn out. See below:

A post shared by We Run This Bitch (@crazycrewcrew) on

He leaves a funny quote at the end that I have to share with you. It says:

“Don’t be afraid to risk it for the Biscuit”

This, to me, meant don’t be afraid to take risks to acquire better things in life.

Perhaps one of the most hyped collabs of all time, the Louis Vuitton and Supreme collab for its Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection had people all across the fashion industry mesmerized. However, the collab has reached a barrier on May 18th when a community board (no.2) voted to reject the proposal for Supreme and Louis Vuitton’s pop-up event. This event was supposed to take place on 25 Bond st. in late July and early August over the course of 2 days but the proposal called for the sidewalks to be blocked off for the course of 4 days.

“Therefore Be It Resolved that CB2 Manhattan STRONGLY recommends DENIAL of the Louis Vuitton/Supreme (Product) Launch, Bond St. between Lafayette St. and Bowery to be held from 6/29/17 – 7/2/17.” – Community Board No.2

According to the community board of 32 members, the proposition lacked a line management plan, considering the fact that they could not accommodate this crowd.
